Chris Jack.

5FM’s Poppy will also be celebrating her birthday that night and will be treating the crowds to a special birthday set – definitely a must see!

Doors open 4pm – 4am.

Tickets for the event are available at: www.webtickets.co.za and cost R120 per person.

Goldfish is Back!

After months of being abroad and touring the rest of SA one of my favourite South African bands, Goldfish, is finally coming back home to Cape Town. The band is once again gearing up to give Capetonians their weekly fix of electronica.

The super popular Submerged Sundays will once again take place at St. Yves in Camps Bay starting on Sunday 27 November until Sunday 26 February.

If you have been hiding under a rock and don’t know what I’m on about Goldfish are an electronica and dance group hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. The band is made up of of Dominic Peters and David Poole. Their unique style of dance music mixes elements of jazz and African music, combining live instruments like double bass, saxophones, keyboards, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects and synths.

Goldfish have opened for many international electronica acts, including Basement Jaxx, Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MCs.

They’re a fantastic live act so make sure you make your way to Camps Bay this summer and see the Fishies (as they are affectionately known by fans) in action.

A Meat Lover’s Paradise – The Hussar Grill Camps Bay

I would not consider myself a big lover of meat – most of the meals I cook at home are vegetarian and my only meaty weakness is droewors – but like most carnivores I do like a good steak or rack of ribs every-now-and-then. So when the urge strikes I like to pay a visit to my favourite steak house – The Hussar Grill in Camps Bay. The Hussar Grill has a few branches around Cape Town (Rondebosch, Greenpoint, and Willowbridge) but with it’s incredible view the Camps Bay branch is by far my favourite.

The dark leather dinning chairs, wood paneled walls and stacks of old books give the restaurant a cool old school library feel to it. The decor also gives the space a cozy but ‘manly’ vibe – perfect if you’re taking a guy out on a date and want to impress him! (Hey you never know – sometimes us ladies have to a make the first move).

The journey of your meal starts with your waiter presenting a cutting board of the raw meat cuts available for that evening. This might seem cheesy but I love it – I think it’s a great little touch as it makes me feel like I’m part of the whole meal experience. But maybe I’m just easy to please.

Another thing I love about Hussar’s is the way they present your meal. Being a steak house the meat is the main show so it’s served up alone on your plate with the sides served in separate dishes. Meals come with a selection of bottomless chips, new potatoes, or mash potato as well as portions of butternut and spinach with cheese sauce. If you’re looking for something a little different try the Warthog ribs – they’re amazing.

Perhaps the best thing about The Hussar Grill is that they encourage diners to bring their own wine and don’t charge corkage! It’s a small luxury but not many restaurants offer this to their customers.

The Hussar Grill also has regular specials R99 specials. The latest one to try is their Two Course Meal Special. Butternut soup or Calamari starter and 500g Beef Ribs with Veg and Starch for R99. (The special is available at the Camps Bay and Greenpoint branches).
