ghd Style-A-Thon

If you’re not so keen to shave off all your hair at the annual CANSA Shavathon but you’re still keen to support CANSA’s work ghd has just the thing for you – the ghd style-A-thon. The ghd styling teams will be hosting a ghd style-A-thon at several shopping centres across South Africa on Saturday, 1 October 2011.

Show your support for those who are battling cancer by having your hair styled and acknowledge the hard work being done by CANSA to educate the public and provide support to all people who are affected by cancer. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and is dedicated to encouraging all women to invest in their health by learning how to  detect breast cancer at an early stage.

The ghd style-A-thons will take place at shopping centres in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town on Saturday, 1 October 2011 during mall hours. A donation of R50 for adults (R20 for children under 12 years) will enable you to have your hair professionally styled. In Cape Town you can get your hair styled at Canal Walk Shopping Centre.

Styling will also take place in Johannesburg at Cresta Shopping Centre and Clearwater Mall and Durban at Gateway – Theatre of Shopping.

In a bid to raise further funds for CANSA on the day, the 2011 limited edition ghd Pink Orchid styler (R2 380) will also be available to purchase at the ghd style-A-thon. Remember that R100 from each styler sold will be donated to CANSA. Customers will also receive a free ghd Style Curl Hold Spray valued at R195 when they purchase this limited edition styler.

For more information on the ghd style-A-thon visit ghd on Facebook or http://www.cansa.org.za or call 011 4638601.

Hair Envy with Cloud Nine Straighteners

I’ve been devout to my ghd since I got my first one in 2005. I couldn’t believe the way it transformed my hair and I vowed never to use another hair iron brand again. Now, I’m ashamed to admit I’m thinking of cheating on my beloved ghd with its newest competitor – Cloud Nine.  Before you label me a traitor hear me out.

Cloud Nine is developed by the original founders and manufacturers behind ghd – so technically it’s not really cheating. The brand combines state of the art technology with temperature control, allowing you to create loose waves, soft curls, and poker straight styles.
With its low, medium and high-heat options (six in total) and a perfectly constructed, rounded barrel, Cloud Nine enables you to achieve a whole range of styles. I love the fact that you can control the heat – it’s one of the big reasons I’m thinking of trading in my aging ghd for a younger model.

The iron’s black ceramic plates contain an element of pearl sparkle which adds extra shine to your hair. The iron also has a hibernation mode – it automatically switches off after 10 minutes of idle time, and will only re-heat when you switch it on again.

Cloud Nine hair straighteners have been causing a stir since they launched in the US in October 2009. They’ve slowly made their way to South Africa and are available at selected Salons. If you’re looking for one in the Cape Town area they are available at Pink23 on Roeland Street Cape Town.

Cloud Nine has also just launched their latest product – The Wand. The long, cone-shaped black barrel makes for a sexy, streamlined aesthetic. The length of the barrel, combined with the difference in diameter from the base to the tip, allows for more creativity when creating curls and flicks.

Cloud Nine hair irons retail for about R1800 and are a great investment when you consider how much a blow dry and styling costs in a salon. This year I’ll definitely be gifting myself with a brand new Cloud Nine.
